About Bergen Flesland Airport

Bergen Flesland (BGO) Airport is the second busiest international airport in Norway, with a number of 5,296,325 passengers registered in 2010. It is situated 12 km (7.5 mi) away from the city of Bergen, being a hub for Norwegian Air Shuttle, Scandinavian Airlines, Widerøe and Bergen Air Transport. The airport is also the seventh busiest one in Europe and has been voted the best European airport by the British travel magazine Wanderlust Travel Awards.

The airport was inaugurated in 1955, when it had a single runway, through NATO funds. Then, in 1988, a new terminal was open and later on, in 1991, also a new tower. The new terminal currently has 11 gates with jet bridges and 11 parking spots for aircraft. It should be noted that all the international passengers must pass through the duty free shop in order to reach their flight. However, some passengers (for instance, those allergic to perfume), may ask security to use a narrow corridor so that the shop can be avoided. As for the old terminal, it now works as a helicopter terminal that mainly serves oil platforms in the North Sea.
